It happens a lot, but because we think in boxes, we don’t realise it.

Box 1.  Children

Children, little angels that they are freshly arrived from heaven, oddly need to be taught good behaviour with mind-numbing repetition, but are geniuses at being horrible without any coaching. Nobody teaches a child how to be petty, unforgiving, spiteful, petty, pointlessly destructive and wantonly violent and cruel to other children and any living thing smaller than themselves – it comes naturally.

In the bad old days when adults thought it was their role to control children and teach them the right way to behave, and prevent obnoxious behaviour, children bullied other children. It just didn’t occur at…
